In addition, Infineon announced that it will also carry out 8-inch renovations to its existing factories in Filach, Austria, Germany, and Curing, Malaysia.
According to previous reports, in February 2022, Infineon announced that it would invest more than 2 billion euros to expand SiC and GaN semiconductor production capacity. They will build a third factory area at their Curing factory in Malaysia. This announcement of capital increase means that the total planned investment of the Curing factory will increase from 2 billion euros to 7 billion euros.
According to the report, Infineon's sources of funding for this expansion include a new contract of approximately 5 billion euros in the automotive and industrial application fields, as well as a prepayment of approximately 1 billion euros.
Among them, customers in the automotive field include Ford, SAIC, and Chery, while customers in the new energy field include SolarEdge and China's three leading photovoltaic and energy storage system companies. In addition, Infineon and Schneider Electric have reached an agreement on capacity reservation, which has already made advance payments for silicon carbide products and silicon semiconductor products.
Infineon CEO Jochen Hanebeck said, "The SiC market is showing an accelerating growth trend not only in the automotive sector, but also in a wide range of industrial applications such as solar energy, energy storage, and high-power electric vehicle (EV) charging. As Curin expands, we will ensure our leadership position in this market
